PFC was established in July 1986 as a financial institution (FI) dedicated to the power sector financing and committed to the integrated development of energy and related sectors. The Corporation has been notified as a public financial institution in 1990 under the Companies Act 1956. The Corporation was registered as a non-banking finance company by the RBI and has been bestowed with Nav-Ratna status power of government. India on June 22, 2007.
