Allahabad Cantonment was established in 1857 with a total area of 4526.47 hectares including the civil area of 140,608 hectares. According to 2001 census figures, the total population in the civilian area in Allahabad Cantonment is 24119.
Allahabad Cantonment Board is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Defense, Government. of India. Allahabad Cantonment is a cantonment of Category II. The Board consists of 14 members, including seven elected members. The Station Commander is ex officio Chairman of the Board. The Vice President is elected for seven members elected by the Board.
