The Directorate of Extension was established in 1958 following the implementation of community programs for the National Development and Extension Service throughout the country in 1953. In addition to the functions of specific knowledge dissemination to farmers and infrastructure monitoring the extent of training around the country, the Directorate of Extension was also later called upon to implement national programs such as the Intensive Agricultural District (HPDI) and the intensive agricultural areas Programme (IAAP).
