GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development was established in August 1988 in-Katarmal Kosi, Almora, as an autonomous institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. The Institute is identified as a coordinating body, to advance scientific knowledge for integrated management strategies, demonstrate their effectiveness in the conservation of natural resources and ensuring adequate environmental development in the entire Himalayan region of India (RSI) .
