Tamil Nadu Newsprint Papers Limited (TNPL) was established by the Government of Tami Nadu during the eighties to produce newsprint and printing and writing paper using bagasse, a residue of sugar cane as main raw material . The company began production in 1984 with an initial capacity of 90,000 tonnes per year. Over the years, production capacity has increased to 2,45,000 tonnes per annum and the company has become the largest bagasse based paper mill in the world consumes about one million tons of bagasse every year.
