In India, mechanical engineering technology has been responsible for almost half of total imports of technology. In terms of products, nearly a third of the value of total imports for mechanical engineering team. To develop the technology indigenously mechanical engineering to industries for which R & D can play a key role in self-reliance, Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Durgapur, West Bengal was established in February 1958 with the specific task of developing the mechanical engineering technology.
